Whale Shark - Free Pattern

Whale Shark

Materials

  • Yarn (I used Loops & Threads Soft Classic Solid yarn)
  • Crochet hook (I used a 4.5mm hook)
  • Safety eyes
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stuffing
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors

 

Abbreviations (US terms)

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • inc - increase
  • dec - decrease
  • hdc - half double crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • tc - triple crochet
  • ss - slip stitch
  • FLO - front loops only
  • BLO - back loops only
  • mc - magic circle
  • (...) - repeat the part in parenthesis specified number of time
  • (#) - number of stitches after finishing the round

 

Finished Size

6 inches long. May be different for everyone based on yarn thickness, hook size, and tension.

 

Pattern Instructions 

Main body (make 2):

Make one in dark blue and the other in white
1. Chain 12, turn and sc 11 down the chain (11) chain and turn
2. Inc, sc 9, inc (13) chain and turn
3. Sc across (13) chain and turn
4. Inc, sc 11, inc (15) chain and turn
5-7. Sc across (15) chain and turn x3
8. Dec, sc 11, dec (13) chain and turn
9-10. Sc across (13) chain and turn x2
11. Dec, sc 9, dec (11) chain and turn
12-14. Sc across (11) chain and turn x3
15. Dec, sc 7, dec (9) chain and turn
16-17. Sc across (9) chain and turn x2
18. Dec, sc 5, dec (7) chain and turn
19-23. Sc across (7) chain and turn x5
24. Dec, sc 3, dec (5) chain and turn
25-26. Sc across (5) chain and turn
27. Dec, sc, dec (3) chain and turn
28. Dec 3 together (1)
Fasten off with a very long tail for sewing.

Dorsal fin (small)

Attaching Parts

Start by sewing both halves of the main body together. I used a whip stitch to attach mine, but you can use whatever sewing method you'd like.


Next, sew the pectoral fins onto the sides. 


Now sew the two dorsal fins so that the bigger one is toward the head, and the smaller one is toward the tail.

Finally, sew the two tail pieces to the end of the body. Put the bigger piece on the top, and the smaller piece on the bottom.
