Moose - Free Pattern

You can't have Canadian animal patterns without a moose. Their big noses are the cutest part in my opinion! The tiny ears have to be a close second, though.The antlers can get a little tricky, especially for beginners and if you're not used to working with chains, but don't let that deter you!

Moose

Materials

  • Yarn (I used Loops & Threads Soft Classic Solid yarn)
  • Crochet hook (I used a 4.5mm hook)
  • Safety eyes
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stuffing
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors

 

Abbreviations (US terms)

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • inc - increase
  • dec - decrease
  • hdc - half double crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • tc - triple crochet
  • ss - slip stitch
  • FLO - front loops only
  • BLO - back loops only
  • mc - magic circle
  • (...) - repeat the part in parenthesis specified number of time
  • (#) - number of stitches after finishing the round

 

Finished Size

5 inches tall. May be different for everyone based on yarn thickness, hook size, and tension.


Pattern Instructions 

Head:

Using dark brown
1. 6 mc (6)
2. (Inc)x6 (12)
3. (Sc, inc)x6 (18)
4-7. Sc around (18) x4
8. (Sc, dec)x6 (12)
9. Sc around (12)
10. (Sc, inc)x6 (18)
11. (Sc 2, inc)x6 (24)
12-17. Sc around (24) x6
18. (Sc 2, dec)x6 (18)
19. (Sc, dec)x6 (12)
20. (Dec)x6 (6)
Fasten off and close the hole.


Antlers (make 2):

In beige
Chain 8
Skip the first chain, then sc 6, (sc 3 in one stitch)
Working in the other side of the chain, sc, (chain 2 then sc in the second chain from the hook), ss, (chain 2 then sc in the second chain from the hook), ss 4
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.


Ears (make 2):

In dark brown
Chain 5, skip the first chain then sc 2, hdc, dc
Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing.


Body:

3. (Sc, inc)x6 (18)
4. (Sc 2, inc)x6 (24)
5. (Sc 3, inc)x6 (30)
6-9. Sc around (30) x4
10. (Sc 3, dec)x6 (24)

14-15. Sc around (18) x2
16. (Sc, dec)x6 (12)
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.


Arms (make 2):

In dark brown

6-7. Sc around (6) x2
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.


Feet (make 2):

1. 6 mc (6)

3-5. Sc around (9) x3


Tail:

Chain 5, sc 3, inc
Working on the other side of the chain, sc 3



Attaching Parts

Sew the ears and antlers to the top of the head.

Sew the head to the body, and add the arms and legs.


Sew the tail to the bum.
