Banana Slug - Free Pattern


 Banana slugs are the biggest slug in North America, and second largest in the world! A common sight in the Pacific Northwest, but still a sight to behold every time. This slug comes with one big "bruise," but feel free to add some black here and there for a different pattern!

Materials

  • Yarn (I used Loops & Threads Soft Classic Solid yarn)
  • Crochet hook (I used a 4.5mm hook)
  • Safety eyes
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stuffing
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors

 

Abbreviations (US terms)

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • inc - increase
  • dec - decrease
  • hdc - half double crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • tc - triple crochet
  • ss - slip stitch
  • FLO - front loops only
  • BLO - back loops only
  • mc - magic circle
  • (...) - repeat the part in parenthesis specified number of time
  • (#) - number of stitches after finishing the round

 

Finished Size

4 inches long. May be different for everyone based on yarn thickness, hook size, and tension.

In mustard and [black]
1. 6 mc (6)
2. (Inc)x6 (12)
3. Sc around (12) (do 2 times)
4. (Sc, inc)x6 (18)
5. Sc around x2 (18)
6. sc 3, [sc 3], sc 12 (18)
7. Sc 2, [sc 5], sc 11 (18) (do 2 times)
8. Sc 2, [sc 5], sc 2 [sc 2] sc 7 (18)
9. Sc 2, [sc 9], sc 7 (18)
10. Sc 3, [sc 7] sc 8 (18)
11. Sc 5, [sc 3], sc 10 (18)
12. Sc around (18)
13. (Sc, dec)x6 (12) start stuffing
14. Sc around (12) (do 2 times)
15. (dec)x6 (6)
16. Sc around (6)
Fasten off and close the hole.



Upper tentacles ("eyes", make 2):

Chain 6
Skip the first stitch, then ss in each chain.
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.



Lower tentacles (make 2):

Chain 3
Skip the first chain, then ss in each chain.
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.


 

Attaching Parts

Sew the upper tentacles to the top of the face (the slightly wider end), and the lower tentacles to the bottom of the face.
