Sheep - Free Pattern


Soft, fluffy sheep are just the best, so make one of your own! This pattern might be a little tricky for beginners since you have to work with fluffy yarn and it can be hard to see the stitches, and there's some surface crochet bobble stitches, as well. I promise the payoff is worth it, though!


Sheep

Materials

  • Yarn (I used Loops & Threads Soft Classic Solid yarn for the face (weight 4), and Bernat Blanket yarn for the wool (weight 6)
  • Crochet hook (I used a 4.5mm hook)
  • Safety eyes
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stuffing
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors

 

Abbreviations (US terms)

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • inc - increase
  • dec - decrease
  • hdc - half double crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • tc - triple crochet
  • ss - slip stitch
  • FLO - front loops only
  • BLO - back loops only
  • mc - magic circle
  • (...) - repeat the part in parenthesis specified number of time
  • (#) - number of stitches after finishing the round

 

Finished Size

3.5 inches long. May be different for everyone based on yarn thickness, hook size, and tension.

 

Notes

 You use the same hook for the face and the wool, but switch which yarn weight you're using.

 

Pattern Instructions 

Body

Starting with cream (weight 4)
    1. 6 mc (6)
    2. Inc x6 (12)
    3. (Sc, inc)x6 (18)
    4. Sc around (18) (do 2 times)
        Change to wool coloured yarn (weight 6), still using the same hook
    5. FLO sc around (18)
    6 - 10. Sc around (18) (do 5 times)
    11. (Sc, dec)x6 (12)
    12. Dec x6 (6)
Fasten off and close the hole.

Ears (make 2):

Using wool colour yarn (weight 6)
    Chain 2
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing. Weave yarn from the start of the chain through to the end.


Feet (make 4):

In black (weight 4), put your crochet hook through one of the stitches where you want the foot to be, and pull a slip knot through. Make 2 chains and a bobble stitch, then fasten off. Repeat for each leg.



Tail:

Using wool coloured yarn (weight 6)
    Chain 2, sc in the first chain you made.
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.
 


Attaching Parts

Sew the ears to the sides of the head, near where you switch from face to wool. Add the tail to the bum, near the lower back.


 Add all 4 feet using the method in the feet section.
