Ocean Sunfish - Free Pattern
Make a miniature version of one of the largest bony fishes in the world, otherwise known as the Mola mola. It's the perfect size for a keychain, if that's up your alley, too!

Materials
- Yarn (I used Loops & Threads Soft Classic Solid yarn)
- Crochet hook (I used a 4.5mm hook)
- Safety eyes
- Tapestry needle
- Stuffing
- Stitch marker
- Scissors
Abbreviations (US terms)
- ch - chain
- sc - single crochet
- inc - increase
- dec - decrease
- hdc - half double crochet
- dc - double crochet
- tc - triple crochet
- ss - slip stitch
- FLO - front loops only
- BLO - back loops only
- mc - magic circle
- (...) - repeat the part in parenthesis specified number of time
- (#) - number of stitches after finishing the round
Finished Size
3.5 inches tall, including the fins. May be different for everyone based on yarn thickness, hook size, and tension.
Pattern Instructions
Body
1. 6 mc2. (Inc) x6 (12)
3. (5 sc, inc) x2 (14)
4. (6 sc, inc) x2 (16)
5. (7 sc, inc) x2 (18)
6-9. Sc around (18) switch to contrast colour on last stitch of round 9. Stuff slightly
10. Pinch flat and crochet through both sides. Make sure you line it up so the increases are on the top and bottom edge! (sc, 3 dc in same stitch) x4, sc
Top and bottom fins (make 2)
1. 3 mc (3)2. (Inc) x3 (6)
3-4. Sc around (6)
Fasten off, leave a tail for sewing
Pectoral fins (make 2)
Ch 3Starting in second chain from the hook: ss, sc
Attaching Parts
Sew the top and bottom fins to the top and bottom edges, just before the tail
Sew the pectoral fins just behind the eyes on each side.
