Panda Bear - Free Pattern


While they're not native to my area, pandas are popular enough to get their own pattern here! I used my bear pattern as a base to make this, so if you're looking to make a regular grizzly bear, check that one out!


Panda Bear

Materials

  • Yarn (I used Loops & Threads Soft Classic Solid yarn)
  • Crochet hook (I used a 4.5mm hook)
  • Safety eyes
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stuffing
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors

 

Abbreviations (US terms)

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • inc - increase
  • dec - decrease
  • hdc - half double crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • tc - triple crochet
  • ss - slip stitch
  • FLO - front loops only
  • BLO - back loops only
  • mc - magic circle
  • (...) - repeat the part in parenthesis specified number of time
  • (#) - number of stitches after finishing the round

 

Finished Size

Mine ended up around 4.5 by 2.5 inches. May be different for everyone based on yarn thickness, hook size, and tension.

Using white and [black]

3. Sc around (9)
4. 2 sc, [sc, inc], inc, [inc, sc], 2 sc(12)
5. 2 sc, [sc, inc], sc, inc, sc, [inc, sc], 3 sc (15)
6. (2 sc, inc) x5 (20)
7-8. Sc around (20) x2
9. (3 sc, inc) x5 (25) switch to black
10. [Sc around] (25)
11. [(4 sc, inc) x5] (30)
12. [Sc around] (30) switch to white
13-18. Sc around (30) x6
19. (3 sc, Dec) x6 (24)
20. (2 sc, dec) x6 (18)
21. (Sc, dec) x6 (12)

Ears (make 2)

In black
3 mc

Tail

Starting in second chain from the hook, 2 sc



Attaching Parts

Sew the ears to the top of the head, and also attach the tail to the bum high up near the back.



Attach all four of the legs to the underside of your panda, making sure they're evenly spaced. The front legs should be on the black band.
