Ant - Free Pattern


It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of bugs and insects. While ants can be a pest for some people, I think they're adorable! They work so hard, cooperate together, and love sugary snacks! I hope this pattern can help someone out there appreciate these little creatures a bit more.


Ant

Materials

  • Yarn (I used Loops & Threads Soft Classic Solid yarn)
  • Crochet hook (I used a 4.5mm hook)
  • Safety eyes
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stuffing
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors

 

Abbreviations (US terms)

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • inc - increase
  • dec - decrease
  • hdc - half double crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • tc - triple crochet
  • ss - slip stitch
  • FLO - front loops only
  • BLO - back loops only
  • mc - magic circle
  • (...) - repeat the part in parenthesis specified number of time
  • (#) - number of stitches after finishing the round

 

Finished Size

About 4 inches long. May be different for everyone based on yarn thickness, hook size, and tension.

5-9. Sc around x5 add safety eyes between rounds 5-6, ~12 stitches apart
10. (2 sc, dec) x6 (18) stuff head
11. (Sc, dec) x6 (12)
12. (Sc, inc) x6 (18)
13. (2 sc, inc) x6 (24)
14-16. Sc around x3 (24)
17. (2 sc, Dec) x6 (18) stuff middle section
18. (Sc, dec) x6 (12)
19. (Sc, inc) x6 (18)

21-24. Sc around x4

Starting from second chain from the hook, 6 ss (6)


 


Attaching Parts

Sew the 6 legs so there's 3 on both sides of the body. Put them all on the middle section of the body.


 

Sew the antennae to the top of the head, slightly toward the front.
