North American Beaver - Free Pattern

Beavers are hardworking, and also very, very cute! Their little hands, their big teeth, and their big tails are just to die for! They're an essential part of the Pacific Northwest, so I knew I just had to make one!

North American Beaver

Materials

  • Yarn (I used Loops & Threads Soft Classic Solid yarn)
  • Crochet hook (I used a 4.5mm hook)
  • Safety eyes
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stuffing
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors

 

Abbreviations (US terms)

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • inc - increase
  • dec - decrease
  • hdc - half double crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • tc - triple crochet
  • ss - slip stitch
  • FLO - front loops only
  • BLO - back loops only
  • mc - magic circle
  • (...) - repeat the part in parenthesis specified number of time
  • (#) - number of stitches after finishing the round

 

Finished Size

4.5 inches long. May be different for everyone based on yarn thickness, hook size, and tension.


Pattern Instructions 

Head and body:

Start with light brown
6 mc (6)
(Inc)x6 (12)
Sc around (12)
(Sc, inc)x6 (18)
Sc around (18) (do 4 times)
(Sc, dec)x6 (12)
Sc 3, inc 6, sc 3 (18)
Sc 3, (sc, inc)x6, sc 3 (24)
Sc around (24) (do 7 times)
(Sc 2, dec)x6 (18)
(Sc, dec)x6 (12)
(Dec)x6 (6)
Fasten off and close the hole.




Feet (make 4)::
In dark brown
In a mc, sc (chain 2, sc)x3
Close the mc and fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.


Legs (make 4):
In light brown
4 mc (4)
(Sc, inc)x2 (6)
(Sc 2, inc)x2 (8)
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.



Tail:
6 mc (6)
Inc x6 (12)
Sc around (12) (do 3 times)
(Sc, dec)x4 (8)
Sc around (8)
Flatten and sc through both sides to close.




Tooth:

In white
Chain 2, sc in the second chain from the crochet hook.
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Ears:

In light brown
3 mc
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Attaching Parts

Sew each foot to a leg, then sew the legs to the body. Make sure the little toes are pointing forwards! Also sew the tooth to the face.

Sew the ears to the head, and the tail to the bum. Place the tail a little higher up, hear the top of bum.
